OFWs in Taiwan condemn situation of dormitories

Some Filipino migrant workers in Taiwan have condemned the situation of their dormitories which is said to be the reason for the spread of COVID-19.

The quarantine facility has released most of the overseas Filipino workers who have been subjected to isolation to ensure their safety with COVID-19.

Most of them, negative on the swab test. But some were isolated for another seven days, to be sure.

The OFWs got a headache when they returned to their respective dormitories after their belongings were allegedly dismantled, and they were even moved to another building.

Filipino electronics factory worker “John” was disappointed because the room he moved in was small and still crowded.

The broker who provided the dormitory to the Filipino workers in Taiwan said that they are just following the notice of the central epidemic command center to make sure that those in the building are not crowded.

Kung wala yung workers, wala yung broker,” said “Elaine,” also a Pinoy migrant worker.

Filipino priest Joy Tajonera, a migrant advocate, rushed to the dorm. He forwarded an open letter to the Ministry of Labor to resolve the alleged unorganized relocation of OFWs.

Some of them were even wet from the rain. And some did not get into the transfer.

All factory workers who moved to the dormitory were subjected to swab testing again to ensure that they did not become infected with the virus again.

According to the Manila Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, the director of the Taichung-based Philippine Overseas Labor Office has already met with the broker and the Bureau of Labor.

POLO-Taichung has already filed a complaint with the broker.
