OFWs oppose 1,500 travel cap at NAIA

Many OFWs in the Middle East opposed the new policy that only 1,500 per day will be allowed to return home this coming summer.

Most of them ask why OFWs will be affected by the problem even though they are not the ones carrying the coronavirus to the Philippines.

In some screenshots of the comments of the OFWs on the Facebook page of Kaagapay ng Bawat OFW, they released their thoughts on the news.

OFW Aunzo Utbo Aldaya Bhemz said that it was not the OFWs who increased the number of COVID-19s but the people among us who were negligent.

Is it really OFWs who are causing the increase in the number of people getting sick or are our compatriots in the Philippines reckless, OFW Susan Alano Hermogeno asked.

Meanwhile, some who agree with the travel cap like Marivic Husain Jaron said it would be better to have a homecoming limit because it is also for everyone to be safe when they arrive in the Philippines.

“Mas mabuti po at kapakanan ng nakakarami ang iniisip ng ating gobyerno at hindi naman daw matagalan ang paglimita ng  mga uuwi,” OFW Thelma Pelisan Montederamos said.

Some of those who spoke to GMA News were excited to go home but worried that their flight might be canceled like OFW Bhe May Florano who works as a maid in Hail, a province in Saudi Arabia.

In an interview of GMA News with OWWA Administrator Hans Cacdac, he said that 1,500 OFWs per day are allowed to return to the Philippines from March 20 to April 19.

“Gawa ng tumataas na bilang ng insidente ng COVID-19 cases Lalo na rito sa kalungsuran, Metro Manila, and then yung mga kaso na nagmumula sa mga dumarating from abroad, hindi mo maipagkakaila, pero bagama’t ganon ay pwede ang OFW 1,500 a day pero yung mga non-OFW at mga foreigner hindi muna pwde ang exemption talaga as always mga mahal nating OFWs 1,500 a day,” he said.

Cacdac advised Overseas Filipino Workers to postpone their trip to the Philippines due to the current situation in our country.
