New incident of vaccination mishap recorded in Las Piñas

The local government of Las Piñas is now investigating another case of a vaccination mishap, as happened in Makati and Mandaluyong.

A Las Piñas resident took a video of himself during the vaccination and noticed that the syringe plunge held by the nurse was almost at the end, meaning that the syringe was almost empty when the needle was inserted into his arm.

According to the resident, his first dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine was underdosed.

Dr. Juliana Gonzales of the city health office admitted that the health worker did not give the correct dosage to the resident.

“Ang analysis namin, kasi ‘yong plunger nasa dulo na siya eh, so most likely po, not very minimal vaccine was injected, baka walang vaccine,” said Gonzales.

“Nag-admit naman po kasi ang nurse na he failed to check first kung ano ‘yong dosage. That’s why hindi niya masabi na kung mayroon o wala,” the doctor added.

According to Gonzales, it is undeniable that health workers are tired of the number of vaccinations per day, so human error cannot be avoided.

“One thing is for sure, hindi po ‘yan intentional,” said Gonzales, who also said that they would make sure that what happened does not happen again.

The local government of Las Piñas has also assured that they are conducting an investigation and that the resident will be vaccinated again with the Pfizer vaccine within 3 weeks.

The Department of Health (DOH) is also investigating the incident.

“We were sent a copy of the show-cause order and also a notice to the health care worker about the investigation. So aantayin po natin ‘yong resulta ng kanilang pag-uusap,” said Health Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire.

The local government of Las Piñas has also responded to the DOH’s directive to have overseers and other measures at vaccination sites to ensure proper and quality vaccinations.

“We can give more emphasis on the re-orientation ng ating mga vaccinators… it’s an isolated case po kasi mayroon naman tayong standard sa pagpapabakuna,” said Gonzales.
