The city of Quezon has passed a new ordinance for all business establishments to provide parking spaces for bicycles.

The city’s Bicycle Ordinance requires all malls, supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants and banks to provide bike racks.

A fine of 3,000 pesos or imprisonment not exceeding six months will be imposed on those who fail to comply. Managers and owners of businesses will be held liable for any violations involving the ordinance. 

The ordinance is part of an effort to thwart bicycle theft which is rampant in the city.
