Motorcycle drivers and their passengers must now remove their helmets upon reaching the gates of any subdivision within the city limits.
The city government has directed every homeowners association to strictly enforce the city ordinance – Quezon City Resolution SP-6221 requires the removal of all helmets to help prevent criminal acts involving motorcyclists.
Councilor Roderick Paulate said: “Criminals nowadays use motorcycles in perpetrating crimes, thus a careful and vigilant move to prevent unlawful use of these motorcycles should be given attention.”
He said that most subdivisions have CCTV cameras at the gates, and enforcing the law of helmet removal would assist the city in finding those responsible for crimes.
“Criminals are taking advantage of wearing helmets to commit crimes and to conceal their identities, to easily escape from criminal liability in case of doubt,” Paulate said.
