At least 280 unexploded World War Two bombs have been dug up at a construction site for a housing project, police said on Sunday.

Supt. Ferdinand de Asis, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) spokesman, said the employees of Bruno Construction accompanied the PPO’s Explosives and Ordnance Division team, led by Inspectors Robert Villaruz and Allan Patayan, to the place where the explosives were discovered.

The team reported collecting hundreds of items, including bombs, shells, grenades, land mines, naval mines and the like.

The initial report, De Asis said, listed five 90mm projectiles; 112 75mm projectiles;160 65mm projectiles; and three 20mm projectiles.

Although these did not explode when they were most likely used in World War II, they may still pose a risk of detonation, potentially many decades after they were used or discarded, he said.
