Minor stabs taxi driver in Iloilo

A female minor stabbed a 64-year-old taxi driver on his right shoulder in Sen Efrain B Treñas Boulevard, La Paz, Iloilo, Wednesday night.

The victim was identified as Alfredo Sumbong.

“Ang pasahero ko sumakay sa Nawasa at magpapahatid sa Nabitasan, La Paz. Nung lumagpas na kami, sabi nila doon pa sila sa unahan. Pagdating sa medyo madilim na lugar nagsabi ang babae na i-ihi lang ito. Bumaba ‘yong mga kasama niya at doon ko na naramdaman na mayroong tumama sa kanang balikat ko. ‘Yon pala sinaksak na ako,” said Sumbong.

Alfredo was able to handle the knife, so he sustained only a small wound, which was immediately treated by the Iloilo City Emergency Responders.

Police immediately responded to Sen. Efrain B. Treñas Boulevard’s secluded area and searched for the suspects.

Other taxi units also helped to give light in the area.

Minor stabs taxi driver in Iloilo

After a few minutes, a minor, alias Jay, was caught hiding at the top of a tree.

Sumbong positively points out that Jay was one of the girl’s friends who stabbed him.

“Hindi po ako ang sumaksak sa kanya [I didn’t stab him],” mariiing pagtatangi ni alias Jay.

Jay pointed to alias Che who was the woman in the taxi and demanded that she stabbed the taxi driver.

The knife used in the crime was never recovered.

The three minors were caught in the area where they were hiding, but one was at-large, said Police Staff Sgt. Angel Lemery, Jr., La Paz Police investigator.

The three will face a frustrated homicide case.

The minor suspects are immediately turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Iloilo City Crisis Intervention Unit.
