Military and police operatives arrested a former member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) who was wanted for his involvement in the 2003 bombings in Davao City.
Arrested was Abdul Manap Mentang, alias “Manny,” “Manap” and Al-Molk” was captured in the town of Pigcawayan in South Cotabato.
Mentang is wanted under an arrest warrant for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder charges which were issued separately by the Davao City and Cotabato City regional trial courts.
Authorities say that Mentang was part of the 2003 bombings of the Sasa Wharf and Ecoland Bus Terminal in Davao City which killed 23 people and injured 27 others.
Officials say that Mentang was among the first of 15 members to be trained in basic demolition under the guise of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist network in 1995.
He was originally arrested in Santa Ana, Manila in October of 2004, but was released after 3-months for lack of evidence.
Military officials say that Mentang went on to train MILF members throughout Mindanao – he is currently being held in Davao City after police turned him over to the city on the outstanding warrant.
