A group of at least 20 men stormed a radio station in Iloilo City early Thursday morning.

CCTV footage showed the group drive up to the Carlos Uy Building along Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue in Mandurriao district of Iloilo City at 12.30am.

The CCTV footage shows that the group’s leader was  holding onto something tucked in his waist, while the other members were carrying bags which appeared to hold guns.

The group of men failed to break through the padlocked gates of the building, and the leader of the group tore off the CCTV camera in retaliation.

Although the footage clearly captured the faces of several members of the group, police say the still have to verify their identities.

The raid was similar the August 25, 2013, raid on the same station by the Iloilo Police Special Weapons and Tactics team.

“We did not know these people and we were not sure of their intentions. But we were definitely certain they wanted more than just a past-midnight hello,” Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo said.

The station spokeperson said the brazen manner and the number of the group indicated that their leader “is powerful and enjoys many connections.”

Reports from Aksyon News say that the attempted storming of the station happened an hour after long-time programme host ‘Jun Capulot’ signed off late Wednesday night.

They quoted Capulot as saying the subject of his commentaries was the illegal drug trade, including two personalities who are said to be engaged in the business.
