Mayor Sara will no longer run for national post in Election 2022

Because of President Rodrigo Duterte’s father’s acceptance of the PDP-Laban’s nomination to run for vice president, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said she would not run for a “national position” like the presidency in Election 2022.

The mayor explained that he and his father had agreed that only one of them would run for the national position in the coming election.

On Wednesday, Duterte formally accepted the nomination of the PDP-Laban Cusi faction to run for vice president.

Senator Bong Go will be the presidential candidate. But the senator rejected the nomination despite his earlier statement that he would run for president if he teamed up with Duterte.

Sara also said that she would not support the Go-Duterte compound.

“No. I will not share my light this time,” Duterte said when asked by GMA reporter Joseph Morong.

Sara is the leader of the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) that supported PDP-Laban candidates in the 2019 elections.

Despite what happened, the mayor said that his relationship with his father was still good.

“Our politics do not interfere with our familial relationship. Different job, different family. Nothing personal,” Mayor Sara said in a separate interview.

During Mayor Sara’s visit to Cebu, the mayor was asked if he is open to  for the highest position in the country in the May 2022 elections.

“Opo,” the mayor answered.

“Ang importante sa ngayon ay malaman namin kung ano ang sentimyento ng mga tao at ano ang gusto ng mga tao,” she added.

In recent months, the mayor has been saying not to include her among personalities considered presidential candidates.

This is despite the actions of some groups to persuade her to run for president as the leader of the regional group Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

In April 2021 Pulse Asia Survey, Mayor Sara Duterte still leads a survey of possible presidential bets in 2022.

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (13 percent) was second to Duterte. Senator Grace Poe and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno followed 12 percent each and Sen.  Pacquiao with 11 percent.
