Mayor of La Union Wants Resort Owners to Hand Over Properties In Lieu Of Overdue Taxes – www.plnmedia.com

The mayor of La Union is in a bid to settle overdue tax obligation by at least two abandoned resorts in his area. Mayor Clarence Martin de Guzman has asked the Municipal Council to convince the owners of at least two resorts to sell their properties to the Municipal Government.

The mayor says two of the resorts in mind are closed and have over 12 million pesos in tax obligations – and this would give remedy to the situation, allowing the town to recoup the debt owed.

The mayor says the former five-star beach resort, Cresta Del Mar and Cresta Ola, were already given the chance to redeem themselves by settling their tax obligations but have failed to do so. Both resorts have been closed and abandoned, owing millions of unpaid obligations to the province.

Bauang is a haven for beach resorts and hotels and is considered by many as a tourist destination. The mayor has also asked his department to beef up its efforts in collecting tax, citing several businesses in the town that have not paid their obligations.
