Mass gathering at Baclaran fiesta under investigation

Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez yesterday ordered an investigation into the festival in Baclaran last Monday.

“We will check and see if there was a shortcoming among barangay officials in Baclaran, as well as law enforcers assigned in the area,” the mayor said.

It was after the video was captured that some young people joined the game without wearing face masks.

A parallel investigation into the incident was ordered to identify those involved in the mass gathering at the Sta. Rita De Casia.

PNP chief, P/Gen. Guillermo Eleazar ordered the Southern Police District to investigate the festival held in Baclaran, where there was a violation of health protocols.

“I am giving you instructions to conduct an investigation immediately regarding this and do the appropriate action,” said Eleazar.

Olivarez said he could issue a directive to Association of Barangay Captain president Chris Aguilar to implement measures against mss gatherings at festivals.

Cases of violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for disobedience to a person in authority concerning Executive Order 35 and city ordinances and executive orders of the city will be filed against those identified for such violation.

On the side of Brgy. Chairman Jun Zaide, who covers Baclaran, said they did not receive any report on the video and went around the area, saying that they were barangay officials and reminded that no gatherings and activities would be held at the festival.

Meanwhile, another batch of Sinovac, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine from China, has arrived in the Philippines.

500,000 doses of CoronaVac, manufactured by Chinese company Sinovac, arrived this Thursday, 7:37 a.m. at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Health Secretary  III was one of those who welcomed the Sinovac vaccines.

As a result, 5.5 million doses of COVID-19 have arrived in Manila from China. About 7.7 million vaccines have been delivered to the Philippines.

It is said to be the sixth shipment of the vaccine from Beijing.
