Marikina appealed for additional COVID-19 vaccines

The local government unit of Marikina City has appealed for additional COVID-19 vaccines, especially as the city’s remaining dosages are declining.

According to the city government, the remaining 1,600 doses of the Pfizer vaccine are scheduled to be used this Monday, while the remaining doses of Sinovac vaccines will last only 3 days.

“Nakikita natin ‘yong pagtaas ng vaccine confidence ng mga tao lalo na kung maraming pinagpipiliang uri ng bakuna,” said Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro.

“Nakikita nila tuloy-tuloy tayo sa pagbabakuna at nakikita nila na maraming iba’t ibang tao na nagpapabakuna ngayon,” he added.

In Manila, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced that the city would buy more vaccines due to limited supply.

About 400,000 doses of the vaccine worth P238 million are expected to arrive in June. The mayor did not mention what brand the new vaccines are.

This is in addition to the 800,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine purchased by Manila earlier this year. The initial doses are expected to arrive in September.

According to Moreno, vaccines from the national government will also be reduced, and it is not yet sure if any will come.

Meanwhile, Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez called on the public to inform the LGU if anyone offers the COVID-19 vaccine for sale.

Olivarez clarified that the vaccines are free to eligible residents, and also, the Food and Drug Administration has not approved the sale of them.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora warned against those who allegedly sell the COVID-19 vaccine even in vaccination slots.

The National Task Force Against COVID-19 had earlier said it was investigating reports of the sale of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Philippines targets to vaccinate from 58 million to 70 million people before the end of the year to have herd immunity against COVID-19. More than 4 million doses of the vaccine have been injected in the country as of the last record.

Meanwhile, the OCTA Research group urged the government Monday to vaccinate 50% of the population in Metro  and six other areas at high risk to achieve herd .

The team of experts said 50% of the people living in Metro Manila and the cities of Tuguegarao, Santiago, , Cainta, Cebu, and Imus should be vaccinated due to their high COVID-19  rates.
