The tandem of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos and Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go will continue for the presidency and vice presidency in the 2022 elections is now impossible, especially since the PDP-Laban Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa is said to have decided to run for the presidency.
PDP-Laban President and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said this on Friday, even though Marcos had said at the time that he was “open” to making Go a running mate. It will be remembered that he was joking when the “Bongbong-Bong” tandem was possible in 2022.
“I think that will not happen because we have firmed up already ang pagtakbo po ng tandem ni Bato and Bong Go,” Cusi said in an interview with CNN Philippines.
“Sa ngayon imposible because we are no longer in touch with them [kampo ni Marcos].”
Marcos is a known ally of President Rodrigo Duterte and still has no running mate. He said he first considered making Digong VP, but the latter will “retire” from politics.
Bongbong, son of former president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., is a member of the Federal Party of the Philippines and is not on the PDP-Laban roster.
However, Cusi admitted that their party spoke to the younger Marcos after Dela Rosa filed his certificate of candidacy for the presidency. Nevertheless, no one has “materialized” the said word.
Marcos-Go tandem in 2022 already ‘impossible’ – PDP-Laban
Just this month, Dela Rosa said she was ready to withdraw from the presidential race if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio considered running under PDP-Laban for the same position using substitution.
That’s even though the presidential daughter is a member of the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago. This is because only parties are allowed to substitute for each other.
However, it was only the 20th time that Cusi said they had no plans to substitute Inday Sara for Bato, even though Digong’s son was number one in the 2022 presidential surveys.
“As far as PDP is concerned, we have firmed up the [Dela Rosa-Go] tandem at yun ang tinutulak natin ngayon,” said Cusi.
