The Philippine National Police (PNP) has named Guia Gomez Castro as the “drug queen” who allegedly worked with 16 “ninja cops” to sell “recycled” illegal drugs, but the suspect has left the Philippines on September 21.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar identified Guia Gomez Castro, the former captain of Barangay 484 Zone 48 in Sampaloc, Manila, as their suspected leader in selling illegal drugs. Eleazar said “We are coordinating with various courts in Metro Manila where she was charged with drug offenses, prior to working for her extradition for her to answer for her misdeeds. We want to lock her up behind bars.”

Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval verified that Castro was able to leave the Philippines on a flight for Bangkok, Thailand, several days after arriving from Vancouver, Canada on September 18. She was not flagged by the bureau before leaving because she did not have a derogatory record.

Castro won in the 2018 barangay elections but immediately went on indefinite leave “for the purpose of local travel to Surigao.” Eleazar claimed that “She did not take [her] oath because she had knowledge that the police were after her.”

According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Castro worked with corrupt policemen to sell shabu (crystal meth) worth millions of Philippine pesos daily near the University Belt. Eleazar mentioned that the rogue policemen were members of of a drug enforcement team who did not declare confiscated drug evidence so that they could sell them again.

NCRPO data showed that out of the 16 dirty cops, 9 were already while one is in custody for drug charges. The remaining members were either retired, dismissed or AWOL (absent without leave).

When asked about the reason for finally revealing the identity of Castro, Eleazar responded: “A lot of people already know it because it’s an open secret. Now that it’s out in the open, we are asking Castro to surface and surrender. She may even clear her name.”
