Man violates curfew, splashes muriatic acid to barangay tanods

Authorities arrested a man who splashed muriatic acid to three barangay tanods (guards) after they apprehended him for violating the curfew in Makati City.

The victims sustained burns on their arms after the attack.

The suspect identified as Charles Galicia, alias Gian, 41, unemployed, and a resident of Brgy Cembo is now detained at Makati City Police Station Detention Cell.

According to a Makati City Police report, barangay guards Manuel De, Eugenio Umayam Jr., and Hepolito Espinosa Jr. were patrolling at Kalayaan Avenue in Brgy. Cembo at 11:55 pm when they spotted Galicia wandering the area.

When they reprimanded and asked him to go home, the suspect just continued walking until they were able to stop him. The suspect then threw the muriatic acid he was carrying to the barangay tanods.

The acid hit the guards’ arms and partially tore their uniforms. The tanods worked together to arrest the suspect, who was immediately taken to Makati Sub-Station 8.

He was transferred to the Station Investigation and Detective Management Section (SIDMS), which will file charges including Direct Assault, Disobedience upon Persons in Authority, and violation of Executive Order No. 10 related to the Enhanced Community Quarantine.
