A Filipino posing as an Army major general was arrested after he attempted to extort money from several victims in Central Luzon.
PNP arrested Salvador Escobar, alias “Army Maj. Gen. Salvador Escobar/Orlando Pablico” after tracking him down in Sacrifice Valley in the town of Hermosa, Bataan.
A warrant of arrest was issued against Escobar for the possession of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
No bail was recommended for the fake general – he will be charged with Republic Act 9516 and RA 10591.
Police say Escobar was a primary target amid confirmation that he was misrepresenting himself as an Army 2-star general.
Escobar is also tagged as a leader of an extortion gang who were falsifying military documents and illegal recruitment of Army personnel.
Police said that Escobar escaped arrest in January of 2015 after authorities raided his hideout and arrested a total of 14 cohorts.
