According to reports to City Chief of Police Lt. Colonel Gerald Gamboa, the victim Dennis Balmores and girlfriend Princess Pineda were waiting for a tricycle ride after a drinking session at a restaurant when the suspect suddenly arrived.
The suspect, Jeffrey Santos, 27 years old, then confronted his ex-girlfriend Pineda and the victim Balmores.
A heated argument occurred between the rivals Balmores and Santos, which lead to a commotion and intense fistfight. Santos then pulled out a knife and stabbed Balmores to the different parts of his body in front of Pineda, who was shouting hysterically.
The ex-lover Santos escaped using his motorcycle when bloody Balmores fell in the ground. Pineda rushed his boyfriend to a private hospital where he was declared dead.
Such cases could be considered as a crime of passion or a violent crime, especially homicide, in which the perpetrator commits the act against someone because of sudden strong impulse such as sudden rage rather than as a premeditated crime.
