A 30-year-old man died after the live grenade he was playing with exploded in Barangay 2 Poblacion in Currimao town, Ilocos Norte Sunday night.
According to Police Lieutenant Irineo Sibucao, chief of the Currimao Police Station, the victim was having a drink with his friend when the grenade exploded.
The incident happened in a hut inside the compound of the victim’s house.
“Lumalabas sa imbestigasyon na pinaglaruan niya ang granada. Nakaupo siya at hawak hawak niya ang granada, siguro pinaglaruan niya at sumabog ang hand grenade,” said Sibucao.
The victim died on the spot.
His friend was also wounded after he was hit by grenade shrapnel. He is currently recovering in the hospital.
The victim was a former security guard and is now helping in a car painting workshop.
Authorities are still investigating where the victim came from and why he was holding a grenade.
P680,000 worth of drugs seized in Makati, Parañaque
Three men were arrested in separate drug busts in Makati and Parañaque.
The value of the seized drugs is said to be P680,000.
According to Parañaque Police, they arrested two men aged 29 and 21 in Barangay San Dionisio Monday night after the 2 allegedly sold to a policeman who pretended to be a buyer.
The suspects were found in possession of 50 grams of suspected shabu worth P340,000.
Meanwhile, according to Makati Police, they arrested a 55-year-old man in Barangay Rizal.
The suspect was found in possession of 50 grams of suspected shabu worth P340,000.
According to Southern Police District chief Police Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, they are still continuing their large-scale buy-bust operations in the midst of the pandemic.
Three people were caught in the area who are both on the drugs watchlist.
It is alleged that a house in Barangay Malanday is being turned into a drug den where illegal drugs are allegedly being sold and used.
The target of the operation is 50-year-old alias Ninang. In addition, another woman and four men were arrested.
