Barangay 156 will be put under a three-day lockdown in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan beginning Wednesday, May 13, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan said Tuesday.

The village will be locked down until Friday, May 15, due to an increase in the COVID-19 cases in the area, which has now reached 25.

According to Malapitan, they will seek permission from the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases to extend the lockdown to two weeks.

Under the lockdown, residents will not be allowed to go out unless it is an emergency case, the mayor said.

The local government will ensure that all 5,000 residents of the barangay will be provided with assistance, which will last until the end of the lockdown.

As the number of Caloocan residents tested for COVID-19 increases, the local government also expected that the number of infections would even soar, so they are strictly implementing the protocols of the enhanced community quarantine, said Malapitan.

The local government is also considering locking down another village, in which the number of COVID-19 cases also continues to increase.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Tuesday that Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cebu City would be placed under a modified lockdown until May 31 as the rest of the Philippines ends their ECQ and GCQ on Friday, May 15.
