Makati giving free learning modules, internet load to its 85,000 public school students

The local government of Makati City would give its 85,000 public school students printed and online modules, and daily 5-hour internet load to assist them with alternative learning when school opens on August 24.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay said Tuesday the program would benefit students in preschool to the senior high school of the city’s public schools. Each student would receive a learner’s package with an On-The-Go (OTG) flash drive with learning modules developed by the Department of Education (DepEd) Makati, printed modules, and two washable face masks.

Aside from the learner’s package and free 5-hour internet load, the city government is also giving free uniforms, leather and rubber shoes, and school supplies each school year.

Makati public school teachers would also receive free internet load for their online lessons, just like their students. The LGU would also give parents journals with guidelines on how to help their children in distance learning.

“The city government has been actively involved in current efforts of the Department of Education to ensure that quality education continues to be accessible to the youth amidst the crisis. We are committed to making the blended learning approach work to the advantage of our students, through equipping them with the right tools,” Binay said in a statement.

The OTG flash drive has USB connectors compatible with smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or a smart television to access the digital learning modules.

DepEd Makati would give printed modules to students that do not have access to gadgets.

The Department of Education (DepEd) said earlier, more than 13.75 million students or around 49.52% of expected enrollees for school opening on August 24 have enrolled since the month-long enrolment began on June 1.

DepEd is expecting around 27.7 million students for the 2020-2021 school year, citing the enrollment figures last year.

The education department allotted the first two weeks of June for online enrollment, while the other two weeks for “physical” registration.
