The tandem of President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio (Duterte-Duterte) continues to resonate in the 2022 elections.
Until now, the father and son are still tight-lipped about their election plan, but the Palace said Duterte-Carpio is among the possible endorsements of the President to replace him.
“Let’s just say that madaming options na nabanggit na ang Presidente, and I will just repeat it. Ang mga options na pupuwedeng tumakbo includes also Mayor Sara Duterte, it includes Sen. Manny Pacquiao, it includes former Sen. Bongbong Marcos, it includes even Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. ‘Yon ‘yung mga naririnig ko and it includes also Sen. Bong Go,” said Presidential spokesman Harry Roque.
But just now, the Makabayan bloc has blocked any candidacy plans of the Duterte-Duterte tandem.
“Running in tandem ito na nakamamatay… Sa 2022 elections, hindi tayo papayag na mailuklok ang mag-amang Duterte na magpapanatili ng baluktot, pasista, at anti-mamamayang pamamalakad na nagdulot ng matinding kahirapan sa gitna ng pandemya,” said Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas.
“Wakasan na ang dinastiya gaya ng panawagan nating wakasan na ang riding in tandem, wakasan na din natin itong running in tandem na magpapatuloy sa impluwensiya at pagkontrol ng kasalukuyang administrasyon Duterte beyond 2022,” said Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate.
Makabayan bloc: Duterte-Duterte a ‘deadly tandem’
But even before the Duterte-Duterte tandem made a decision, former Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro went to Davao City to meet with Mayor Sara.
Teodoro was accompanied by his wife Monica and former Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya.
Malacañang said Thursday that President Rodrigo Duterte considers Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Senator Bong Go for his successor.
“Wala pa po siyang desisyon (He is yet to decide, but there are options) as to who might run: Mayor Sara, Senator Manny Pacquiao, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, Jr., and even Manila Mayor Isko Moreno,” Roque said.
