LPA in Batanes now Tropical Depression Gorio

The Low Pressure Area northeast of Itbayat, Batanes has developed into Tropical Depression Gorio.

The center of Tropical Depression GORIO was estimated based on all available data at 730 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

It has a maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 998 hPa.

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is currently in effect.

Tropical Depression Gorio is unlikely to directly affect the weather condition in the country throughout the forecast period. However, the Southwest Monsoon may bring moderate to heavy rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and some parts of the western section of Central and Southern Luzon.

The track forecast shows that the hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) over any land area in the country is less likely.

Tropical Depression Gorio developed from the Low Pressure Area over the Philippine Sea at 8:00 AM today.

On the forecast track, the tropical depression is forecast to continue moving east northeastward in the next 12 hours and will turn north northeastward by tomorrow morning.

Gorio is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 12 hours and may exit PAR by tomorrow morning.

Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.

Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.

Meanwhile, 116 barangays in 11 towns in Pampanga are still flooded, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

“Catchbasin ang Pampanga lalo na ang Masantol at Macabebe. Even in previous years talagang nagtatagal ang tubig dito hindi lang due to rainfall but due to high tide kasi coastal municipality po ang mga ito,” said Angelina Blanco of PDRRMO.

There are 68 activation centers activated in 10 municipalities but some residents prefer to stay in barangay halls and covered courts just to be close to their homes.
