LP talks to other personalities for alliance in Election 2022: Pangilinan

Liberal Party (LP) president and senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said they would talk to some personalities to form an alliance like Sens. Panfilo Lacson, Nancy Binay, Joel Villanueva, and even Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in preparation for the 2022 elections.

In its virtual media interview Tuesday, Pangilinan said their party is trying to expand the unity of other parties crucial to beating the administration in the election.

“Nandiyan si Senator Lacson, nandiyan si Senator Villanueva, nandiyan si Senator Binay ‘di ba? Nandiyan si Isko Moreno, nandiyan, of course, si Vice president Leni [Robredo],” said Pangilinan.

“Can you imagine kung lahat ‘yon ay magkaisa para sabihin na gusto natin ng mas magandang direksyon sa ating bansa?” he insisted.

But for now, Pangilinan said the LP’s communication with the aforementioned personalities is still “informal”.

“There are discussions, informal. May mga pinapaabot na kung maaring magkaroon ng mga pag-uusap. So the Liberal Party is willing to help bring together with the leadership of our Vice President, help bring together the broadest unity possible come 2022,” he explained.

“Sabihin na nating mayroong efforts to reach out,” added Pangilinan.

Although Senate President Vicente Sotto III of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition (NPC) had previously announced that Lacson could be the standard-bearer of their party, Pangilinan said he just wanted to say that the LP is open to forming alliances with other groups to be stronger.

“Again, let’s go back to the lesson in EDSA 1 and EDSA 2 that as much as possible, that’s in the discussion as long as there is clear unity, the LP is open to such broadest unity,” said Pangilinan.

Earlier, Pangilinan supported Robredo’s statement that opposition should only have one candidate o be matched to the administration’s voter.

If Robredo does not run for the presidency, Pangilinan said the LP is ready to support the candidate from another party.

Robredo is among the six personalities chosen by the anti-Duterte coalition 1Sambayan to be the presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2022 elections.
