“It’s a long time waiting” said one man – but the team of Rodrigo Duterte and Alan Cayetano have confirmed their intentions to run as the team.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano confirmed on Saturday night that he and Duterte will run in tandem for the 2016 elections.
In a phone interview on Saturday night with the Inquirer, Cayetano said: “Yes, he will not allow the Constitution to be disregarded and it’s just a matter of talking to the PDP-Laban and setting everything in motion.”
Mayor Duterte, who had just returned from Iloilo City, made the bold announcement when he was ambushed by reporters in an interview.
“My candidacy for the presidency is now on the table,” Duterte said at a birthday celebration of his law school classmate in Dasmariñas on Saturday night.
In a speech that lasted approximately 30-minutes, Duterte said what changed his mind was the recent decision of the Senate Elector Tribunal throwing the disqualification case questioning the citizenship of Sen. Grace Poe who has been accused of not being a natural-born citizen.
Duterte said that the highest office in the land is only reserved for “true-blue Filipino” and not someone based on presumption.
Duterte essentially states that he cannot accept an American President for the Philippines.
In the end, Duterte said the best thing possible “I cannot allow them to fuck the people and to destroy the Constitution. I respect the SET but the ruling is totally wrong.”
