Liberian arrested over fake US dollars

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a Liberian in an entrapment operation for trying to smuggle fake US dollars in the country.

The NBI presented the suspect, identified as George Kennedy, who was complained of by a technician.

The complainant specialized in the US dollar currency exchange and was a recipient of baggage containing USD 2 million, which was held at the airport.

Kennedy said he had put chemicals in dollars so airport authorities would not detect them.

The suspect told the complainant that he was giving P134,000 in exchange for a suitcase, bag, and sealed plastic container as proof that he had not been cheated.

The suspect also showed how black bills could transform into US dollars.

When the complainant opened the plastic bag, he saw that no dollar had been placed, so he immediately reported the incident to NBI-SAU.

The suspect also demanded P20,000 to get the other black bills held at the airport.

The suspect agreed with the complainant that they would meet at a fast-food chain on Macapagal Boulevard in Parañaque City, where the entrapment operation was conducted.

The Parañaque City Prosecutor will have the Liberian undergo inquest proceedings for violating the illegal possession and use of false treasury or banknotes and other instruments of credit.

Korean national’s stabbed, decomposing body found in Pampanga condo

The body of a Korean national woman was found stabbed and decomposing in a condo unit in Angeles City in Pampanga, Wednesday (December 18).

According to authorities, they found the body in the bathroom wrapped in a blanket and are believed to have been dead for ten days.

Police have arrested the live-in partner of the victim who is also a Korean national who has not been out of the condo unit after the crime was committed.

The Korean suspect has been charged with murder and is currently detained at Angeles police station 3 in Pampanga.

Police are also contacting Korean authorities to obtain more information about the suspect.

Authorities continue to determine the motive for the crime.
