LGUs in Laguna receive funds for ECQ aid

Local government units (LGUs) in Laguna have already received funding from the national government to assist those affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

In Pakil town, 4 distribution teams, including police and soldiers, went from house to house to provide aid.

The barangays of Baño and Rizal will be given assistance this Wednesday, said Pakil Mayor Vince Soriano.

On Thursday, the aid will begin to be distributed in Santa Rosa City, according to Mayor Arlene Arcillas.

According to Arcillas, the city received P341 million, but it is still insufficient so the LGU will add P124 million.

In Biñan, the distribution of aid will also take place on Thursday, said Mayor Arman Dimaguila.

He also said that the city received less than P305 million, so the local government will also add.

In Cabuyao City, the nearly P300 million provided by the national government will not be enough.

Laguna has been placed on the ECQ since Aug. 6 due to the spike of COVID-19 cases also in the face of the threat of the more contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus. It will last until Friday, August 20th.

Meanwhile, the city mayor said Tuesday that the -19 wards of hospitals in Biñan in Laguna province are already full.

“Meron kaming communication ng mga hospitals dito sa Biñan. Pero as of today, puno na lahat. Naka-connect din naman kami sa One Hospital Command. But the problem is pipila talaga. Matagal ang pila,” said Mayor Arman Dimaguila.

According to Dimaguila, new applicants for doctors and nurses will again convert the PUP school into a COVID facility hospital.

He said there is still enough supply of oxygen tanks in their city.

“Last week, nag-purchase tayo ng additional 100 [tanks]. Tapos yesterday, 100 tanks na naman binili natin. Good thing, may available pa naman at may nagre-refill pa naman. Unlike before, weekly kami mag-replenish, ngayon daily,” the mayor said.
