According to the Yonhap News Agency, the driver told police that the man had lost 445 million won (US$396,613) at a casino.

The man was confirmed dead at a local hospital.

The Korean Embassy in the Philippines said it was securing information on the man’s death through local police, who are continuing to investigate the death.

Another Korean suicide

Last month another Korean hanged himself in a toilet at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The Inquirer reported that 50-year-old Sang Kwan An was held at the airport after Interpol tipped-off authorities that he was wanted in South Korea in connection with a $700,000 investment scam.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) office at NAIA said the man arrived on a flight from Taipei 3am on July 21 and was due to be put on a plane back to South Korea at 5pm on the same day.

However, the Korean Embassy asked that he remained in detention at the airport so it could serve a warrant of deportation against him. “They wanted him deported so he could go straight to Seoul and face the fraud charges filed against him,” BI Port Operations chief Red Mariñas told the newspaper.

Some airport employees said they overheard the Korean saying he would be a dead man upon his return to South Korea.

According to a report from the Manila International Airport Authority, a lifeless An was found seated on the floor of a toilet with a bag strap noosed around his neck and tied to a door hook, at 7.30pm.
