Joseph Estrada infects older sisters, daughter-in-law with COVID-19

Former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada infected his older sisters and the wife of his son Jinggoy Estrada with COVID-19.

Jinggoy told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo Tuesday afternoon that his wife Precy and aunts tested positive for the disease. However, they were asymptomatic and are now recovering at home.

He said that they may have been infected after they had a family dinner where Joseph Estrada was also present.

“Nag-dinner pa kami… ‘Yung aking asawa, nag-positive kagabi. ‘Yung aking mga tiyahin na kapatid ng tatay ko na mas matanda sa tatay ko, nag-positive rin and I think they are asymptomatic,” Jinggoy explained when asked how his family and relatives are holding up as they are direct contacts of the former president.

Jinggoy did not give further details on who among the sisters of Joseph Estrada were positive for COVID-19.

Former President and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada is now on mechanical ventilation after his COVID-19 pneumonia worsened.

“Yesterday, my father’s condition suffered a setback as his pneumonia worsened,” the younger Estrada said on Facebook.

“Because of this and the resulting increase in oxygen requirement, his doctors decided to place him on mechanical ventilation. This was done to improve oxygen delivery as well as to prevent the tiring of his respiratory mechanism,” he added.

Jinggoy once again asked the public for prayers for Erap’s recovery.

“My father has always been a fighter and I hope that with the help of your prayers he will win this battle. Please continue praying for his immediate recovery,” Jinggoy said.

Jinggoy earlier said his father may have gotten the virus from a recent visitor.

“Every Sunday kasi, we get together as a family. Minsan may visitors ang tatay ko, di natin alam if carrier or positive, tas kumakain rin kasama namin,” he said.
