A 56-year-old Japanese man was found dead in his Quezon province home this weekend.
Katsutaka Itakura was found after neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from his house.
An investigation into the incident showed that Itakura was sick for some time after he was abandoned by his live-in partner almost a year ago.
Itakura was unable to speak English or Filipino, making it nearly impossible for him to seek help. To make matters worse, locals say he had no money or food after his partner stole his passport and his documents.
Police say crime scene operatives found no sign of foul play.
