Isolation, vaccinations to be done in some universities

Some universities in Manila and Cavite are being turned into isolation facilities and vaccination sites in the face of the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Cavite State University in Indang town will use treatment and monitoring facilities to address the increase in COVID-19 cases.

According to the local government of Indang, the isolation facility of Oplan Kalinga in Hacienda Isabela, Brgy. Carasuchi and Carmona Mega Isolation Facility of virus cures.

“Napuno sila last week. ‘Yung surge ng cases dito sa amin, napuno namin eh,” said Vernie Caisip, Indang Mayor’s Office consultant.

“Unfortunately, wala na kami talagang mapagdalhan. So, nag-decide si mayor na kausapin na si president para magamit na namin siya (CvSU),” he added.

Indang Mayor Perfecto Fidel also visited the facility at CvSU on Monday to ensure its readiness to receive patients.

More than 20 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Indang per day in the past week, and there are already 237 active cases as of Tuesday. This includes a detected Delta variant case.

Meanwhile, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines had a vaccination for their employees, faculty members, and relatives in their Sta. Mesa Campus.

The university administration also collaborated with the Manila Health Department to vaccinate about 3,000 university employees and teachers.

This is also the 2nd batch of vaccinated PUP employees.

This Tuesday, 500 doses of the Moderna vaccine will be given to recipients of the second dose.

According to PUP president Dr. Manuel Muhi, 2,000 have been vaccinated while 30 of them have been affected by COVID-19, and some have also died due to the virus, so he wants all employees to be vaccinated.

The PUP leadership also said that the vaccination of their employees and teachers is also prepared in case face-to-face classes are allowed.

They have also laid out plans if face-to-face classes will be allowed, according to Muhi.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 18,332 new coronavirus disease infections, Monday, August 23.

An additional 466 new cases of the more contagious COVID-19 Delta variant were also recorded, bringing it to 1,273 in total.
