Isko Moreno lauds Duterte and IATF’s COVID-19 response

Manila Mayor and presidential aspirant Isko Moreno said that President Rodrigo Duterte and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) had done commendable work in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the mayor’s visit to Bulacan on Friday, Moreno specifically mentioned the government’s three-day vaccination drive against COVID-19.

“Pangamba at takot sa impeksyon, pangamba at takot sa hanapbuhay, dahil dito, nagdulot ito ng konting pagkakalito. But life must go on. We give credit where credit is due,” the mayor said.

“Totoo naman kapuri-puri ‘yung ginawa ni Pangulong Duterte at ng IATF, kung saan ‘yung mga lokal na pamahalaan na nabakunahan na namin. Lahat tumulong naman sa probinsya, which ginawa namin,” he added.

A three-day national vaccination drive (Nov.19-Dec.1) was conducted to increase the number of Filipinos who can be vaccinated against the virus.

Up to 7.6 million people were vaccinated in three days, short of the program’s 9 million targets.

According to Moreno, the Duterte administration is not perfect, but the president listens to the people.

Isko Moreno also cited as an example Duterte’s favor not to make the use of the face shield mandatory.

“May mga bagay na ‘di perpekto. Pero as long as nakikinig ‘yung leader doon sa talbog o pagkakadapa ng kanyang mga tao at ikino-correct naman niya, that’s what you call learning the lesson and moving forward,” he said.

“Tulad halimbawa ‘yung sa face shield, in-argue ko ‘yung isang ahensya ng gobyerno pero nakita mo naman dininig ni President Duterte ‘yung request ng taumbayan. Ako, in-echo ko lang naman,” Moreno added.

The Manila mayor earlier said he would accept the possible endorsement by President Rodrigo Duterte after Senator Bong Go announced his withdrawal from the 2022 presidential election.

“Hindi ako tatanggi. Ang pulubi, hindi nakakapamili,” said Moreno when asked about it.

He said he was honest from the very beginning that he needed help, allies, followers, and volunteers for his campaign.

Despite this, Isko Moreno clarified that his camp has no plans to pursue getting the President’s endorsement.
