The city government has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Science and Technology on a proposed hybrid electric road-train.
The eco-friendly transportation system could accommodate up to 200 passengers at a time. The prototype design is to be sent to Cebu in August of this year to be conceptualised to the local government body.
Under the agreement signed by the city, Cebu would allow a design train to be drawn-up and then offer the technology to the private sector via a partnership involving the city and the winning bidder.
The growing issue of traffic in Cebu has forced local governments to find ways to ease congestion. The environmental-friendly mass transportation system is one possible way for Cebu and other major cities in the Philippines to ease the issues with gridlock traffic and other transportation issues which plague the country.
