Authorities have arrested one of Indonesia’s “most wanted” men after he was tagged in the hijacking of a cargo vessel that ran ashore in the waters just off Mati City, Davao Oriental.

Police arrested 46-year-old Danilo Sorote Wangkanusa a local businessman living in a rented home in Sasa, Davao City.

Indonesian police, in coordination with Davao City police, serve an arrest warrant on Wangkanusa at 10am on Wednesday.

The warrant was issued by Troyo Wibowd, director of Marine Police in North Sulawesi in Indonesia.

The suspect attempted to flee from officers by jumping off the second floor of his home, but police cornered and arrested him.

The suspect is part of the investigation into the M/T Rehobot, a hijacked cargo vessel that ran aground off of Mati City in February.

The ship originated from Indonesia where it was hijacked by five pirates sometime in January.

According to police, the suspect has been hiding out in Davao after his four accomplices have been systematically arrested one by one over the past few months.

The suspect will be deported back to Indonesia after local police officials and Immigration try to see if the man is connected to any other terrorist groups in the country.
