A political analyst believes that the Duterte administration’s “game plan” includes seemingly conflicting and inconsistent statements about running in the 2022 elections.
This is in the face of President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement that he will step down from running for vice president if his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio runs for the presidency in tandem with Sen. Bong Go.
Sara Duterte-Carpio, on the other hand, told him not to drag her in the PDP-Laban conflict, which she called a “sitcom.”
Prof Jean Franco of the University of the Philippines also thinks that the public will not bite the Duterte-Duterte tandem if this is what the father and daughter are really targeting.
“Hindi komportable ‘yung mga tao na parang ‘yung mag-ama ang tatakbo kahit magkaiba pa ng partido… Hindi maganda na parang ang nagiging diskurso sa 2022 elections ay parang sila na lang, parang wala na bang iba? Parang nawawalan ng espasyo ‘yung ibang pananaw, ‘yung ibang plataporma,” said Franco.
Franco, on the other hand, sees Vice President Leni Robredo as Duterte-Carpio’s toughest opponent.
“Kung magiging isa lang ang kandidato ng oposisyon si Leni Robredo na. Mahihirapan kasing ikontra si Isko Moreno sa mga Duterte dahil nu’ng mga unang 2019, if I’m not mistaken in-appoint siya in some post. In a way parang enabler din siya,” said Franco.

But another political analyst, Prof Edmund Tayao, insisted that Moreno is the one he sees as more capable of opposing Duterte-Carpio.
“If I’m going to have a basis and the basis is the survey eh ang nakikita lang natin dito na nagpi-pickup really is Mayor Isko,” said Tayao.
Duterte-Carpio has been the presidential frontrunner in past surveys.
Yesterday, Mayor Sara said Go-Duterte would run for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2022 elections.
She said her father “personally” confirmed to her his plans with Bong Go in next year’s national polls.
“The President, very recently, personally confirmed to me that he would run for Vice President and Senator Go as President,” Sara said.
