The city of Iloilo has approved a memorandum of agreement with a private firm to assist in implementing the new traffic clamping of illegally parked vehicles on regulated city streets.

The city said it will pave the way to a full clamping implementation for violators starting on February 25.

City government is pushing the law as it will be of no cost to the city – just s sharing scheme of 70 per cent for the private corporation and 30 per cent for the city on paid fines of owners who are caught illegally parked.

The joint venture partner has a towing truck to tow illegally parked vehicles in initial city streets, especially in busy commercial streets such as Iznart, JM Basa, Ledesma, Valeria, Quezon, Mabini and Gen. Luna.

Fines will be collected from owners or drivers of vehicles clamped at 1,000 pesos for light vehicles, 1,200 pesos for vans and trucks and 1,500 pesos for public utilities jeepneys illegally parked.

A team from the Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office and the private firm will conduct inspection on regulated city streets and to clamp the tires of vehicles apprehended on illegal parking.
