The idea of a raffle, a way to encourage people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, has also reached Ilocos Sur.

The house will be built on the lot personally owned by Santa Mayor Jesus Bueno Jr. in Labut Norte in the said town.

Bueno admitted that some residents in their town are still hesitant to get vaccinated.

“Hindi naman siguro pangit na gayahin ang best practices ng ibang bayan katulad ng ginawa ng Las Pinas at Pampanga na may pagbibigay ng baka, house and lot, at kung anu-ano pa. So, sa akin ay maganda ‘yung house and lot kasi ito ay hindi nawawala,” he said.

Bueno explained that the participants in the raffle are vaccinated people who belong to the poor sectors of the town.

“Ipapa-raffle ito sa mga poorest among the poor, ibig sabihin, kung ‘yung nagpabakuna ay senior citizen man o bata, ida-disect muna ng DSWD ‘yong poorest of the poor,” said Bueno.

Apart from the house and land, there are plans to add rice, motorcycles or tricycles, and other livelihoods to be raffled with the help or donations of other groups or individuals.

The money to be used to build the house will allegedly come from Bueno’s personal money.

Construction of this bungalow house is expected to begin this June, and the raffle will be held in December this year.

On the other hand, Bueno reminded the authorities that in conjunction with such methods, they would continue to provide additional information to the public on the importance of vaccination against COVID-19 and other methods of prevention.

Meanwhile, more than 5 million Filipinos have received their first dose of the -19 vaccine, while 1.2 million have completed 2 doses.

It is said to be higher than the government’s target of 4 million vaccinations before the end of May.

According to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., 500,000 vaccines per day are needed in  and 8 other places to achieve herd immunity in November.
