IATF to recommend Duterte another GCQ extension in Metro Manila

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Danilo Lim said Thursday the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) would be recommending general community quarantine (GCQ) extension in Metro Manila after July 31.

Lim added the mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR) support the recommendation.

“Ang IATF nag-meeting na at ang irerekomenda sa Office of the President ay i-maintain ang GCQ sa Metro Manila,” Lim said in a Dobol B sa News TV interview.

(The IATF met, and they are recommending to the Office of the President to maintain GCQ in Metro Manila.)

“Wala silang reklamo na i-maintain ‘yung GCQ,” he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce the new quarantine qualification within the day.

The MMDA chief, meanwhile, refuted reports that some NCR mayors proposed going back to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) during their meeting last night.

“Walang comments o inputs from the mayors… kagabi lang kausap namin sila, wala namang inputs na gusto nilang bumalik sa MECQ,” Lim said.

(There were no comments or inputs from the mayors. Last night we talked to them, there were no inputs they wanted to return to MECQ.)

GCQ extension in Metro Manila

Navotas City Mayor said in a separate Dobol B sa News TV interview that Metro Manila Council no longer debated Metro Manila’s quarantine status.

“Hindi napag-usapan ‘yan kasi ang feeling ko given na ang ire-recommend ng IATF is GCQ,” Tiangco said.

(That was not discussed because I feel that it is already given that what the IATF will recommend is GCQ.)

Tiangco added mayors in NCR discussed whether to follow the recommendation of the Department of Trade and Industry which is extending the curfew to 11 pm.

“Para humaba raw humaba ‘yung store hours kasi ang iniisip nila, kaya hanggang 8 o 9 lang ang mga tindahan o ang mga mall kasi uuwi pa ‘yung mga nagtitinda or ‘yung mga kumain sa kanilang mga lugar kaya nagbibigay ng one hour allowance,” Tiangco said.

“So kung gagawing 10 p.m., hahaba din ‘yung mall hours at mas malaki kikitain nu’ng mga restaurants,” he added.
