IATF to prioritize MECQ areas in COVID-19 vaccine deployment

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) said that areas in modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), including Cagayan de Oro, will be prioritized in vaccine deployment.

This is after Cagayan De Oro Rep. Rufus Rodrigo issued a statement that he blames vaccine czar Carlito Galvez for the deaths in COVID-19 of many Cagayan de Oro residents because the vaccine they requested did not reach them.

At a hearing Monday, Rodriguez said that in May he wrote to the IATF and to vaccine “czar” Carlito Galvez Jr. to send more vaccines to the province immediately.

“People died because of the inactivity of the vaccine czar. Let me state that on the record, because if you were able to give those cities which are very high… Andoon na eh many times nasabi na ngayon pa pala June, July pa pala nila papadala ang bigger share for those which are having COVID-19 higher rates,” said Rodriguez.

There will be 8,751 active COVID-19 cases in the city as of June 12, including 1,641 active cases and 384 deaths.

Malacañang denied that the government has neglected Mindanao and other areas in the Philippines regarding distributing COVID-19 vaccines.

Of the more than 12 million COVID-19 vaccine doses that arrived in the Philippines, only 6.68 million or 52 percent were purchased by the government while the rest were donated.
