Record-high: PH records 17,231 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health recorded 17,231 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number to 1,807,800 infections.

Based on newly collected data by the Department of Health, here are the new incoming data for today:

all cases: 1,807,800
still recovering: 123,251, or 6.8% of total infections
new recoveries: 5,595, bringing total recoveries to 1,653,351
deaths only: 317, which raises the total local death toll to 31,198

Today, the Philippines recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases in just one day at 17,231. It already surpassed the record on April 2, 2021.

The country also recorded the highest number of COVID-19 deaths (317) in a single day in the past 314 days.

Although COVID-19 cases are on the rise and hospitals are filling up, it appears that another P2 billion for COVID-19 supplies in 2020 was not spent by the Department of Budget and Management. Hence, it needs to be returned to the national treasury, according to Paul Guinbarda, director of the DOH procurement service earlier.

About 582,500 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses purchased by the private sector and local government arrived in the Philippines earlier today.

Metro Manila and Laguna residents will be allowed to exercise outside their homes starting tomorrow with the gradual relaxation of its quarantine classification in the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). However, it will only be allowed in Manila from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m., according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Benhur Abalos earlier.

In connection with the MECQ tomorrow in Metro Manila, residents of the main region will no longer be required to show quarantine passes whenever they leave their homes while making their essential travels, according to Metro Manila Council chair and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez.

While Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso continues to fight COVID-19 in the hospital, it was confirmed today that he has completely lost his taste and smell, which is one of the common symptoms of the deadly virus.

COVID-19 has already affected 209.2 million people worldwide, according to the latest data from the World Health Organization. Of that number, 4.39 million people died.
