Helper arrested for voyeurism, installed CCTV in women’s comfort room

Valenzuela City police arrested and jailed a helper for voyeurism after he installed a CCTV (closed-circuit television camera) in a women’s comfort room.

The suspect was identified as Ereberto Look, 29, single, a maintenance helper, and lives in Joyce Street, Brgy. Karuhatan, of that city.

The victim, Areza Zurbito, 23, secretary of Superior Stock Farm Feedmills, filed a complaint against the suspect.

According to police reports, Zurbito went to the women’s comfort room to pee at ten around in the morning.

When she was in the bathroom, she noticed that the light bulb had a camera, so she immediately informed her colleagues in the company.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that the bulb was CCTV operated. They also looked at the CCTV footage of the company and saw the suspect entering the ladies’ comfort room on February 6 with a screwdriver and a bulb in his pocket.

Employees immediately reported the suspect who was arrested by the company’s security guard and was eventually turned over to Police Community Precinct 10. He now faces charges of violating Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.

The Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act prohibits the following acts:

  1. The unconsented taking of a photo or video of a person or group of persons engaged in a sexual act or any similar activity, or capturing an image of the private area of a person, under circumstances in which the said person has a reasonable expectation of privacy;
  2. The copying or reproduction of such photo or video recording of the sexual act;
  3. The selling or distribution of such photo or video recording;
  4. The publication or broadcasting, whether in print or broadcast media, or the showing of such sexual act or any similar activity through VCD/DVD, the internet, cellular phones, and other similar means or devices without the written consent of the persons featured.

Prohibitions numbered 2, 3, and 4 will still apply even if the person or persons featured in the photo or video consented to the taking of the photo or recording of the sexual act.
