Sulu police gave the confirmation after they discovered the head, believed to be that of one of the Samal Island kidnap victims.

The head was found at the corner of Mayor Salih Yusah, and Sari Ahmad Streets in Barangay Walled City, Jolo, Sulu on Monday night.

Chief Inspector Junpikar Sittin, police chief of Jolo, said the head appeared to belong to a ‘caucasian-looking’ person.

The head was placed in a plastic bag and was found around 7.30pm on Monday.

Chf. Insp. Sittin said, “We need to search for the body.”

Dr Raden Ikbala, one of the acting physicians of the Integrated Provincial Health Office in Jolo told The Inquirer, that the head belongs to Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad.

Ikbala said in the report “He was beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf in Sitio Pegah Mount Dahu, Barangay Langub in Talipao Town. It’s confirmed because the head is in the Jolo Police Station.”

Sekkingstand was one of three foreigners kidnapped on Samal Island on September 21, 2015.

Also taken in the kidnapping and raid on Samal were Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall – all three foreigners were taken along with Filipino Marites Flor.

The Abu Sayyaf group originally demanded 300 million pesos for the release of each victim.

Their demands said that if the ransom was not paid by April 25, the victims would be killed.

UPDATE – Captive killed was Ridsdel, not Sekkingstand as first reported by local sources.
