A hand grenade encased in ice was discovered at a retired judge’s home in Bloomfield Subdivision in Quezon City this week.

Witnesses say that two white vans stopped at the judge’s house and placed a cloth bag in front of Vivencio Baclig’s home at 4.30am. The bag contained an MK2 fragmentation grenade, two bottles of sports drink and a plastic bottle containing diesel and trinitrotoluene, said police.

The grenade was encased in ice and without its pin so once melted, the grenade would detonate. The former trial judge is known most for his part is clearing the Ampatuans and their followers of rebellion charges in connection with the 2009 massacre – saying that the charge had lack of evidence.

The subdivision the judge lives in does not have CCTV and the guard logbook only showed a taxi entering the village at that time.
