Hacker orders P1M worth of liquor using Gatchalian’s credit card

The hacker who used Senator Sherwin Gatchalian’s credit card ordered P1 million worth of liquor, not food.

Gatchalian sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday and said he already got initial information from Foodpanda, the online food delivery company the hacker used.

“Nakausap ko na ang coordinator nila at ‘yung president mismo ng Foodpanda at sila po ‘yung nagsabi sa akin na ang inorder pala ay alak,” he said in a press conference.

(I have talked to their coordinator and the president of Foodpanda himself and they are the ones who told me that the order was liquor.)

“Street address lang ang ibinigay hindi bahay eh (street address was only given not the home address),” he added.

The hacker successfully made four transactions with a liquor supplier and had them delivered through the courier. The hacker changed the phone number linked to Gatchalian’s credit card that is why he or she was able to use it.

The items were delivered somewhere in Makati and in another area which is yet to be determined.

“Dahil nakuha nila ang one-time password, sa isipan ng Foodpanda legitimate ang transaction so dineliver nila ang items,” he said.

(Because they got the one-time password, Foodpanda thought the transaction was legitimate so they delivered the items.)

Gatchalian said the incident is still under further investigation. He added he does need to pay for the P1 million worth of liquor since the transaction was unauthorized and fraudulent.

Meanwhile, Union Bank said it is already probing the “isolated incident.” It also immediately cut the senator’s credit card after receiving the report.

Yesterday, Gatchalian said hackers used his credit card to buy a million-peso worth of food for delivery.

“My credit card has just been hacked! May nag order ng P1M worth of food sa Food Panda in less than an hour. Ano yan lauriat para sa buong barangay???” Gatchalian said on Twitter.

The senator shared a screenshot of the transactions which showed that four purchases were charged to his credit card in the afternoon of January 5.

Each transaction ranged from P96,265 to P356,517.
