The clearing operation in Tondo, Manila, was filled with tension when a grandfather made his young grandson a barrier under a tow truck so that their confiscated motorcycle would not be taken away.
As reported by Mariz Umali on GMA News “24 Oras” on Thursday, the video shows the child getting up from under the tow truck, but the grandfather took him again and put him under the tow truck again.
“Sa taranta ko para maibaba nila— hindi lang mapaandar ‘yung whecker nila. Walang lolong naglagay na mamatay ‘yung bata para sa motor eh. Hindi ko na alam kung ano gagawin ko,” said the grandfather, who regretted what he had done.
It was found out that his son-in-law’s motorcycle was confiscated by those conducting the clearing operation because it allegedly blocked the road.
On the other hand, the grandfather denied that the motorcycle was obstructing the road, saying that his son-in-law had just redeemed it.

But the head of the clearing operation, General George Jugo, explained, “Wala siyang lisensya atsaka, ano siya, obstruction. Nakabalagbag. Okay lang sana kung ‘yung kaniyang motor ay nakagilid. Eh, nakabalagbag po. Atsaka maliit na ‘yung kalye. Paano kung nasunugan.”
The child’s aunt said that the child was also losing weight because she knew that the mother’s problem would increase again.
“Sumisigaw na po ‘yung bata ng, ‘yung mama ko malaki problema. Maawa po kayo, dadagdag na naman sa problema ng mama ko ‘yan. Kasi nagwawala na ‘yung bata sa gigil ng bata, hindi na po alam kung anong gagawin,” the aunt explained.
“Kung hindi namin gagawin ‘yan, eh paulit-ulit lang ‘yung magiging trabaho namin atsaka paulit-ulit lang na nandoon sila. Kaya kailangan bigyan natin sila ng disiplina,” said the official.
The grandfather regretted what he had done.
“Inano ko ‘yung bata, eh, nailagay ko ‘yung bata [sa panganib]. Pasensya na kayo sa mga… nagawa ko sa apo ko. Sana tingnan niyo rin ‘yung cut nila sa ginawa. Nakita nila ‘yung kamalian ko pero ‘yung kamalian nung nag-clearing sa amin, hindi nila pinakita,” he explained.
