Gov't now allows motorcycle taxi operations

Malacañang announced Friday that motorcycle taxi firms could now resume operations after Congress allowed the pilot study’s continuation on this mode of transport.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) approved the measure on Thursday after the House transportation committee allowed the resumption of operations.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory BoardHe would release the guidelines, he said.

“Mabuting balita po iyan kasi pupuwede naman tayong mag Angkas o mag Joyride,” Roque said at the Laging Handa briefing.

Angkas chief transport advocate George Royeca earlier assured the public that their fleet is ready to serve commuters. He added that their drivers were trained on the proper disinfection of vehicles after every trip.

He said Angkas would utilize cashless payment schemes, IATF-approved barriers between the rider and passenger, and prohibit helmets’ sharing.

In August, Angkas partnered with the National Task Force COVID-19 and Joint Task Force COVID Shield to give health workers transportation services amid the limited public transportation after Metro Manila.

Gov’t now allows motorcycle taxi operations

The motorcycle taxi firm deploys at least 1,000 riders to assist medical frontliners during the country’s fight against the deadly virus.

According to Eleazar, the priority hospitals where the riders were deployed are Philippine General Hospital, Manila City, San Lazaro Hospital, Manila City; East Avenue Medical Center, Quezon City; Ospital ng Sampaloc, Manila City; and Tala Hospital, Caloocan City.

Other priority hospitals are the National Kidney Institute, Quezon City General Hospital, Ospital ng Maynila, Lung Center of the Philippines, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, and Fabella Hospital.

Aside from giving free rides, Angkas also donated a total of 1,000 motorcycle barriers for health workers who own motorcycles at home.

Yesterday, the government announced that free wifi, colder airconditioning, and even measuring clothes are now allowed inside the malls.

This is one of the new policies now being implemented in some malls following the easing of government restrictions.

Also, senior citizens are allowed to enter the malls as well as the sale of liquor.
