President Duterte has hit back over criticism of a recent speech in which he called the God of the Old Testament a “stupid son-of-a-bitch“.

Speaking today (Monday, June 25) he said: I said nothing about my God being stupid. I said, ‘Your God is not my God because your God is stupid. Mine has a lot of common sense’.

“If I choose not to believe in any God, what’s the fucking thing about it?”

He claimed that his tirade against the Almighty and the Bible’s creation story stemmed from his outrage over Sister Patricia Fox, who he had ordered investigated for allegedly engaging in political acts. However, the president made absolutely no mention of the Australian nun during his controversial speech on Friday.

The president also hit out at his critics for exploiting the controversy. Politicians who have spoken out include Senator Panfilo Lacson, Senator Risa Hontiveros and Senator Antonio Trillanes.

All of you there, don’t ride on this. Kindly review the tapes. I’m brighter than you,” he said.

The president also said he would apologise for his words against the creator only if his critics could explain how their God was “perfect”.

“Now tell me if it is a perfect God. I will kneel down, stretch my hand, and ask for forgiveness. Tell me if it is a very poignant story of the history of mankind or it is really a stupid one,” he said.

Undeterred by the reaction to his speech on Friday, the president today turned his attention to the story of the Last Supper in the New Testament.

He said: “Even this Last Supper, who are the idiots there? They just made the people in the painting saints, San Isidro, San Pablo, Saint Jude, Santo Rodrigo, whoever.”

In the past, the president has jokingly referred to himself as a saint, saying that he would start his own religion and call it “Iglesia ni Duterte.”
