Gatchalian wants to be Sara Duterte’s VP in 2022

A senator is now aiming for the second-highest position in the Philippine government, even though his party mate first expressed the desire to run for the same position.

This is exactly what Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian admitted in an interview with ANC “Headstart” this morning while emphasizing that he wants to partner with the president’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“I talked to Mayor Sara a few months back. And we talked about my plans,” he said.

“I’m vying for the vice president position, but this is still very fluid.”

Sara, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, is still tight-lipped and has not confirmed her plan to run for president next year.

Gatchalian released his plan despite rumors that his father would be Sara’s vice.

In June that Sen. Panfilo Lacson said he would run for the presidency if Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III becomes his vice president.

Sotto and Gatchalian are both members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) party. When asked if he was ready to leave the NPC in case Sotto insisted on running for vice, this was Gatchalian’s only answer: “We will talk about it … for now… I don’t have any definite answer for now. because it’s still quite fluid. ”

“I’m still talking to Sen. Sotto about arrangements.”

Gatchalian currently serves as a senator and has experience in executive office when he was elected mayor of Valenzuela.

“I’ve been both the executive side and also the legislative side, and I’ve learned so many things from both sides,” he explained.

He said he had been a legislator for nine years, and he feels he will be able to contribute more to the executive once he returns.

Sotto’s camp has not yet made a public statement regarding Gatchalian’s plan so far.

Despite this, the camp of Vice President Leni Robredo, who is rumored to run for the presidency next year, first admitted that they were in talks with Lacson, Sotto, and Sen. Richard Gordon for “creating broad alliance seeking change in 2022.”
