Impact of ECQ on COVID-19 case in Metro Manila not immediately seen: Duque

The effect of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) has not been immediately seen even though it has been implemented for a week in Metro Manila.

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, the virus is still spreading rapidly. Just Wednesday, the Philippines recorded 12,021 additional COVID-19 cases.

Kahapon, tumaas. Tingnan natin ngayong araw. Harinawa, ‘wag namang sumipa nang mataas pa.”

In an interview with TeleRadyo Thursday morning, Duque said the 2-week growth rate is still high, which means the virus is still spreading rapidly.

Metro Manila was placed at the strictest lockdown level from August 6 to August 20 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 possibly caused by the more contagious Delta variant.

Duque said it is not yet clear whether the ECQ will need to be extended.

Duque, meanwhile, denied the statement by the traders’ association that the data may have been sensationalized amid the threat of the Delta variant.
