FORBES MAGAZINE, has listed the Philippines as the seventeenth best in the world to retire in. The magazine singled out Subic Bay and Tagatay as two particularly good places to spend your golden years.

The magazine ranked the top 20 best retirement havens by looking at issues such as:

  • Scenery
  • Safety
  • Tax matters (especially those associated with retirees)
  • Local hospitality
  • Weather
  • Healthcare
  • Use of the English language by locals

Forbes also pointed out that the Philippines has a high appeal to those retiring due to the low cost of living in a tropical environment. The magazine also touched on the easy retirement requirements from the Philippines government, making the Philippines an affordable retirement destination.

It also highlighted Tagaytay for its cool climates in a tropical destination, and Subic Bay due to its infrastructure from the old US Navy base.

Although the cost of living has gone up in the past few years, Forbes still ranked the Philippines as one of its ‘must see’ retirement destinations.

Forbes also chose another famous retirement destination in their 2014 list, describing Dumaguete as a perfect retirement destination from over 800+ choices in the world.

Recently another famous online magazine chose the Philippines as its #17 choice for havens to retire in the world – International Living Magazine, picked the country out of 23 places that they highlighted for 2016.
